Sasha & Digweed — the complete mix discography.
The short answer
Sasha (Alexander Coe) and John Digweed are the British DJ partnership whose Renaissance — The Mix Collection (1994) invented the modern multi-CD DJ compilation format. Between 1994 and 2002 the pair released Renaissance, three Northern Exposure volumes, Communicate and the Delta Heavy live album. This is a guide to every one, in release order, with editorial notes and standout tracks.
Also included: the solo Global Underground volumes each of them released during the same window that anyone serious about their body of work needs to hear.
Renaissance — The Mix Collection
1994 · Renaissance Recordings · Triple CD
The record that invented the modern DJ mix-compilation format. Three CDs of continuous mixing — Sasha on discs 1 and 3, Digweed on disc 2 — recorded for Renaissance nightclub's Mansfield residency. Reached #1 on the UK Compilation Chart in November 1994, sold more than 500,000 copies, and is widely credited as the first commercially-mixed multi-CD compilation to be treated as an artistic work in its own right. Every subsequent mix-compilation series (Global Underground, In Search Of Sunrise, Fabric) owes it a debt.
Standout selections
- · Leftfield — Song Of Life
- · Underworld — Rez
- · Sasha — Higher Ground
- · React 2 Rhythm — Whatever You Dream (Sasha's Renaissance Mix)
Northern Exposure
1996 · Ministry Of Sound · Double CD
The first Northern Exposure — one CD each from Sasha and Digweed, recorded as a matched pair rather than a continuous set. Weightier and more progressive than Renaissance, with a heavier lean into tribal-progressive and early trance. Charted #2 in the UK Compilation Chart and established the Northern Exposure brand as a serious rival to Ministry Of Sound's own Sessions series.
Standout selections
- · BT — Loving You More (Deep Dish Astral Remix)
- · Rabbit In The Moon — Out Of Body Experience
- · Terra Ferma — Zombie
Northern Exposure 2 — East Coast / West Coast
1997 · Ministry Of Sound · Double CD
The most creatively ambitious volume in the run. Two CDs themed around US coasts — East Coast (Sasha) leaning into New York's Deep Dish and Twilo aesthetic, West Coast (Digweed) leaning into San Francisco's Hardkiss and progressive-tribal scene. Released to accompany the pair's US touring schedule that year; widely cited as the moment Sasha & Digweed's own influence on American electronic music consolidated.
Standout selections
- · Way Out West — The Gift
- · Aphrohead — In The Dark We Live (Twilo Mix)
- · Havana — Ethnic Prayer
Northern Exposure — Expeditions
1999 · Ministry Of Sound · Triple CD
The final Northern Exposure release before the pair moved to Global Underground and their own Communicate album. Three CDs of continuous mixing themed around Sasha and Digweed's international touring schedule — Europe, US, Ibiza. The last of the strict Northern Exposure trilogy.
Standout selections
- · Sasha — Xpander
- · Kosheen — Empty Skies
- · Jah Wobble — Becoming More Like God (BT's Non-Denominational Remix)
Communicate
2000 · Kinetic / INCredible · Double CD
The first Sasha & Digweed release that was not part of a residency-branded compilation series. Two continuous CDs, presented as a standalone artistic statement, marketed with an album-style cover and campaign. Reached #16 on the UK Album Chart — extraordinary for a mixed-DJ release — and is the volume that consolidated the pair's transition from residency DJs to headline touring act.
Standout selections
- · BT — Dreaming (Way Out West Remix)
- · Astral Projection — Chemical Slaughter
- · Chab feat. JD Davis — In The Air
Delta Heavy Tour (Live)
2002 · Thrive Records · Double CD (live)
A live recording of the pair's 2002 US arena tour, released on Thrive Records in the US. Notable as one of the earliest commercially-released live DJ recordings (rather than a studio-mixed compilation) — the audience crowd noise is left in the mix. Documents the pair at the commercial peak of their US touring career.
Standout selections
- · Underworld — Two Months Off
- · Photek — Terminus
- · Habersham — Chorda
Global Underground 018 — Hong Kong (Sasha, solo)
2000 · Boxed / Global Underground · Double CD
Not a Sasha & Digweed release, but the most-cited Sasha-solo mix-compilation of the era and consistently voted the greatest Global Underground volume ever released. Two CDs recorded live in Hong Kong, structurally miles ahead of anything else in the GU catalogue at the time. Included here because you cannot understand the Sasha & Digweed body of work without it.
Standout selections
- · Underworld — Kittens
- · Way Out West — Domination
- · Faithless — Salva Mea
Global Underground 006 — Sydney (Digweed, solo)
1998 · Boxed / Global Underground · Double CD
The equivalent Digweed-solo volume of the era and the most-cited Digweed GU release before the Los Angeles and Kuala Lumpur volumes. Recorded live in Sydney across two nights at Home nightclub. Heavier and darker than the Sasha volumes; the volume that established Digweed's solo aesthetic outside the partnership.
Standout selections
- · Havana — Ethnic Prayer
- · Space Manoeuvres — Stage One
- · Salt Tank — Eugina
What is Sasha and Digweed's most important record?
Renaissance — The Mix Collection (1994) is the most historically important Sasha & Digweed release. It was the first commercially-mixed multi-CD DJ compilation to be treated as an artistic work in its own right, reached #1 on the UK Compilation Chart, sold more than 500,000 copies, and established the mix-compilation format every subsequent DJ series (Global Underground, In Search Of Sunrise, Fabric) would follow.
How many Northern Exposure albums are there?
Three: Northern Exposure (1996), Northern Exposure 2 — East Coast / West Coast (1997), and Northern Exposure — Expeditions (1999). All three were released on Ministry Of Sound. The pair moved to Kinetic / INCredible for Communicate (2000) and did not release a fourth Northern Exposure volume.
Are Sasha and Digweed still DJing together?
Sporadically. The pair reunited for a live series called Last Night On Earth beginning in 2011, played headline sets at Coachella (2007), Ultra Music Festival (2011), and continue to reunite for occasional festival-headline sets and one-off residencies. There is no permanent Sasha & Digweed touring partnership; both artists continue to work primarily as solo DJs.
Where can I stream Sasha & Digweed mixes?
The pair's official mixes on Renaissance, Ministry Of Sound, Global Underground and Kinetic are available on Spotify, Apple Music and Tidal under those label banners. YouTube hosts fan-uploaded rips of most releases plus the Last Night On Earth podcast series and Sasha's Involver / Involv3r mix series on his own Last Night On Earth label.
