Tsunami Records

Ferry Corsten's imprint — System F, Gouryella, and the Dutch peak.

The short answer — what is Tsunami Records?

Tsunami Records is the Dutch label founded by Ferry Corsten in the mid-1990s. It released his own defining work — System F's 'Out Of The Blue' (1999) and the Gouryella project with Tiësto — and in doing so set the template for the bright, supersaw-led Dutch uplifting sound of the genre's peak years.

Founded 1996 in Rotterdam by Ferry Corsten · Sublabels: Flashover Recordings.

The history

How Tsunami Records shaped the era

Corsten had already worked under a long list of aliases across hardcore and gabber before Tsunami. The label was where he consolidated: one imprint, a coherent sound, and the freedom to release under whichever name suited the record.

'Out Of The Blue' as System F is the clearest statement of that sound — a huge detuned lead, a breakdown that holds far longer than seems wise, and a drop engineered for a room of ten thousand people. Gouryella, the collaboration with Tiësto, produced three singles between 1999 and 2000 that did the same thing with more restraint.

Corsten later moved his activity to Flashover Recordings, and Tsunami's release schedule wound down accordingly. Its 1998–2001 run remains one of the most concentrated bursts of canonical trance any label produced.
