Three Drives On A Vinyl — Greece 2000

"A 1997 original with “2000” in its title, not its release date."

The Story

Why this record matters

Greece 2000 began as a 1997 Massive Drive Recordings release credited to Three Drives On A Vinyl. The original Dutch EP placed the title track alongside Not Overdrive and Piano Freq. Our editorial reason for including it is the contrast it offers with the more overtly uplifting records here: use the original as the reference, then compare the different remix treatments.

Origins

How it came to exist

The original MD 003 catalog record establishes Massive Drive as the first-release label. Hooj Choons issued subsequent UK editions. The community release transcription credits DJ Ton T.B. and DJ Enrico; those stage-name credits are used here rather than adding legal-name details without a verified original credit source. The “2000” in the title should not be read as the release year.

Production

How it was built

Version names are essential to this record’s history. The 1998 Hooj CD lists an original mix and a shorter original mix edit alongside Man With No Name, Farmatronic and Peace Division interpretations. Other Hooj releases identify a Miro vocal version and a York remix. A vocal variant is not proof that the original instrumental carried the same vocal.

Reception

What happened when it landed

Hooj’s different UK issues document the record’s circulation beyond its Dutch original. Armada’s later announcement calls back explicitly to the 1997 classic when introducing the Vintage Culture collaboration. This guide uses that documented release trail rather than an unsourced account of who first played it in Ibiza or which studio hardware produced its melody.

Legacy

What it changed

Armada released a new jointly billed Vintage Culture & Three Drives interpretation in August 2022. That artist credit belongs to the later reprise, not the 1997 original. This distinction is useful when searching streaming catalogs: the same composition title can lead to different performers, arrangements and release dates.
