A partnership before the breakthrough

Benno de Goeij’s biography traces his musical foundation to piano lessons at seven and his meeting with Piet Bervoets to 1997. That is a partnership date, not a verified first-single date. The original Airwave pressing is cataloged as a 1999 Free For All release. A separate 2000 CD and British release history help explain why different catalog pages show different years for the same composition.

Airwave is not the whole catalog

The historical biography places Such Is Life in 2001 and Awakening and the album Symsonic in 2002. The original instrumental Airwave has a later vocal redevelopment, Breathing (Airwave), documented on ID&T in 2003. Keeping those versions distinct gives a clearer account than treating every release containing the Airwave melody as the same recording. We do not call Airwave an unqualified debut, because the catalog also documents Black Snow / The Citrus Juicer in 1999.

Original productions and remix credits

Benno’s biography identifies the Rank 1 remix of Cygnus X’s Superstring as another breakthrough. The original artist remains Cygnus X: a familiar remix does not turn the underlying composition into a Rank 1 original. Dutch Force, meanwhile, is one of Benno’s own projects and appears in an Airwave remix credit. That name is not a third Rank 1 member.

Performance, collaboration and later versions

The member biography documents live-event activity and dates Benno’s close writing and co-production work with Armin van Buuren to 2007. The historical account connects L.E.D. There Be Light with Trance Energy in 2009. Later Airwave versions include the 2014 21st Century Mix and Giuseppe Ottaviani’s 2023 High Contrast remix. They show the composition’s continued use while retaining the original release history.
