Perfecto Records — Definition
Perfecto Records is the London label founded in 1989 by Paul Oakenfold and Steve Osborne. It was the first British label to treat trance as a crossover pop format — releasing Grace's 'Not Over Yet' (1995), BT's 'Flaming June' (1997), Planet Perfecto's 'Bullet In The Gun' (1999) and countless Oakenfold remixes — and its Perfecto Fluoro sub-label (launched 1996) is where the harder, Goa-inflected end of the catalogue lived.
Perfecto is the vehicle through which almost every Oakenfold-era classic-trance record reached the public. The main label chased the pop chart (Grace, Planet Perfecto, Oakenfold's own vocal singles), while Perfecto Fluoro handled the peak-time and psy-adjacent material for the clubs. The Perfecto Presents… mix compilation series (Another World, Great Wall Of China, Ibiza) doubled as a curatorial statement: this is what Oakenfold thinks trance sounds like right now.
Perfecto's influence rests on timing as much as taste. Founded in 1989, it was already an established pop-facing dance label when trance arrived, which meant Oakenfold could push trance records through major-label distribution and onto daytime radio at a point when most of the genre was still moving through specialist import channels.
The sub-label structure is worth understanding when navigating the catalogue: Perfecto proper for crossover and vocal material, Perfecto Fluoro for the harder psy-adjacent club records, and Perfecto Presents… for the mix compilations.
