The peak year is shorthand for the twelve to eighteen months — roughly mid-1998 to the end of 1999 — when uplifting trance was simultaneously the dominant club sound in Europe, a fixture on daytime radio, and commercially viable at chart scale. It is the window every 'classic trance' argument eventually returns to.
